On 13 February 2008, as the Australian Parliament's first order of business, former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd read an apology to the Stolen Generations for the negative impacts of policies of successive Parliaments and Governments. It was passed unanimously as a motion by both Houses of Parliament.
The Apology was enormously significant to Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians and is one of the most powerful moments in Australia’s reconciliation journey to date.
The Apology is commemorated annually with the National Apology Breakfast, led by Michael McLeod CEO and Founder of Message Stick, an Indigenous-certified business.
